One of Le Maitre’s core values is innovation. A value that has kept Le Maitre always pushing to be at the forefront of research and development for the Pyrotechnic Industry. As the longest-standing and most renowned pyrotechnic manufacturer still operating in the UK many of the effects you see today have originated from the laboratories and minds at Le Maitre. This translates into Le Maitre having a vast catalogue of products, sometimes resulting in some of our most impressive and unique products going under the radar, one victim of this is our absolutely incomparable Virtually Smokeless Volcano mines. The purpose of this blog is to shine a light on this unique and unparalleled product and to answer some FAQ’s.

1. How would you best describe the visual of the Virtually Smokeless Volcano Mines?

A bright plume of deep and intense coloured stars with minimal smoke and no fallout.

2. What is the best scenario to use the Virtually Smokeless Volcano Mines?

This product is an indoor product. These are best used in theatres, pantomimes and arenas for tours.

3. What makes Virtually Smokeless Volcano Mines unique?

The consistency of these mines is superior to conventional mines, making them even more visually satisfying. Additionally, the stars are composed of our Virtually Smokeless formula, so the smoke output is minimal making them a hugely popular choice for indoor venues.

4. What sizes and colours are available for the Virtually Smokeless Volcano Mines?

Volcano mines currently come in 2 sizes: Small and Large.
Small = 8-10ft (2.5m - 3m)
Large = 15-18ft (3.5 - 5.5m)
Colours = blue, green, orange, pink, purple, red, silver fizz, white and yellow.

From an operational perspective, it’s important your pyrotechnician knows that the tube sizes are different to other mines, therefore may not fit in the traditional holders used for Mines.
Small Volcano Mines tube size: Length - 140mm, Outer Diameter - 37mm.

Large Volcano Mines tube size: Length - 207mm and Outer Diameter - 55mm.

5. Can you explain why the Virtually Smokeless Volcano Mines are able to be more consistent than traditional mines?

VS Volcano Mines are unique in their design compared to conventional methods.  There are less components in the manufacturing process, resulting in fewer variables that can affect performance.  They have proven to be exceptionally consistent, against the performance of conventional 20’ and under mines which have been inherently difficult to keep consistent for all manufacturers, alike.

6. Le Maitre has a large Mine Collection - What would you say is the main difference between the Virtually Smokeless Volcano Mines and the Virtually Smokeless Mines?

The Volcano mines create a different shape – they appear more as a spray of stars holding their pattern on ignition, whereas the Virtually Smokeless Mines are a slower effect and their pattern is determined more at the peak of their height than when the stars leave the tube.

6. Is there anything else to keep in mind?

Currently the Le Maitre offering of Virtually Smokeless Volcano Mines only come in two sizes, unlike the traditional Mines which have more options. The largest mine is 18ft, meaning if you would like a mine over 20ft then you’re best of choosing a traditional mine, which go up to 75ft.

However, Le Maitre's R&D team are working on creating larger Virtually Smokeless Volcano Mines. More information on this will be available within a few months.
